Saying goodbye to the list of Certified MySQL Users

The MySQL Certification: Listing of MySQL Certified Users has been a valuable resource for many years. I have a small stack of emails from people who were recruited for jobs after someone spotted their names on the lists. But the lists are going away.

The vast majority of MySQL Certification information is now part of Sun's certification system and has been since the end of July. Prometric exam results feed into that system and not the MySQL system. The lists of certified users pulls from the now out of date MySQL system. That means the data from the listings are not up to date. There is no easy way to cross-tie the information from Sun's systems into the MySQL web system. So please spread the word that the lists are going away, most likely by the end of the calendar year.

The list of certified users is also a great way for me to prove that I am, in fact, certified.

Is there a corresponding place on the Sun side that I can give to people to show my certification?

For example, for my 5.0 Certification Validation I link people to http://www.mysql.com/certification/results/index.php
certificate id: 74651
password: sheeri

For Core (4.x certification), I have shown people http://www.mysql.com/certification/candidates.php?exam=core -- which doesn't seem to be working right now (I don't see a list of names...).

Please don't take away functionality; Lists may be out of date, but there should be a way to verify that someone is certified if they claim to be. It makes certification more legit.

Hi!

I just want to say I second Sheeri's opinion on this one.

Cheers, Roland.

We'll try to get something together that has similar functionality but I can't make any promises.

I agree with Sheeri and Roland, the public listing of certified candidates is quite an important resource. If theres any possibility of keeping them or doing nightly /weekly extractions from the sun system to show publicly, that would be great.

can you at least keep the older functionality so the people who are currently able to prove their certification still can?

Losing functionality is a really really bad thing. Even when the functionality wasn't perfect to begin with.

Plus, in another year you'll just move to whatever Oracle's system is, so isn't it best to only have to migrate once?

Please don't take away existing functionality without providing an alternative. It's really a pet peeve of mine.
